Questions with Noah Jordan

What made you decide to practice law?
I am a third-generation labor lawyer, so I like to say that what I do for a living is in my blood.  My grandfather was one of the three founding members of our law firm and was one of the first union-side labor lawyers practicing in Western Pennsylvania in the 1950s.  My father learned the labor practice from him, and I followed in his footsteps.  Many of the clients I represent today were represented by my grandfather and/or father before me, which makes what I do feel even more meaningful.   I view the opportunity to practice law as a privilege to be used in service of others and a way to honor my family’s legacy.

What aspect of your work are you most passionate about?
All the work I do, whether representing unions in traditional labor law matters, or representing individuals with employment issues, is focused on helping to achieve more fairness in the workplace.  A job is not just what someone does to earn a living – it is an extension of who they are.  Everyone, regardless of what they do, deserves to feel pride in their work and to be treated with the respect they deserve from their employer.  My goal is to put my knowledge, skills, and experience to use by helping my clients to accomplish this.

What do you enjoy most about what you do?
The best part of my job is regularly having the opportunity to make a positive difference in other peoples’ lives.  Whether by helping them to negotiate for better wages, benefits, or terms of employment, or by attaining reinstatement for a wrongfully discharged employee, I am most satisfied when my work results in improving someone else’s life.
