Douglas DeNardo is a shareholder at Rothman Gordon in the Estates, Trusts and Taxation Department. He represents individuals, professionals, and owners of closely-held businesses and professional corporations and associations, working with them to develop strategies to meet their wealth transfer goals. Doug also counsels professionals and business owners on comprehensive asset protection planning strategies, including domestic asset protection trusts. With the recent boom in Marcellus shale gas exploration, Doug has been assisting landowners in estate and income tax planning for lease bonuses and royalty payments with a particular emphasis on multigenerational planning. In addition, he represents charitable organizations (public charities and private foundations) in all facets, from formation to development efforts.
Doug has also developed an extensive knowledge of representing non-citizens and those with non-citizen spouses.
Doug also handles Orphans’ Court matters involving the administration of estates and trusts.
Doug is a fellow of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel. He has been named a Pennsylvania Super Lawyer every year since its inception in 2004 and is listed in The Best Lawyers in America. He is rated AV® Preeminent™ by Martindale Hubbell. Doug earned his B.S., cum laude, and his J.D., cum laude, from Duquesne University. He also served as a senior staff member of the Duquesne University Law Review from 1987-88.
Active in the community, Doug is a member of the Allegheny County Bar Association and the Pennsylvania Bar Association. He serves as a member of the board of directors of Bishop Canevin High School; is the Chairman of the Moon Township Zoning Hearing; and is a member of the Professional Advisory Board of the Pittsburgh Foundation. Doug is also a member of the Planned Giving Advisory Boards of Carlow University, the Diocese of Pittsburgh and California University of Pennsylvania, the Gift Planning Advisory Council at Duquesne University, the Professional Advisors Council at Robert Morris University, and is a Past-President of the Steel City Selects Girls Hockey Association. In 2015, he was appointed to the Board of Directors of the American Cancer Society (East-Central Region) and in 2017, he was named a member of Nationwide Gift Planning Advisor Council for the American Cancer Society. Doug was also appointed as a member of the Chair’s Ambassador Council at Animal Friends.
